How does the trial version differ from the regular version?
The trial version and regular version are identical. The software will run for 30-days in trial mode without requiring a registration code. Once the 30-day trial expires, you must purchase a registration code to continue using the product. You do not need to re-install the software. Simply enter the registration code to continue using the software and all of your data will remain intact. You may purchase a registration code on our purchase page.

How do I install SplashMoney?
You must download and run the SplashMoney Installer on your desktop, as follows:

  1. Go to the download page, and click the Download button for SplashMoney for your operating system (Mac or Windows).
  2. When prompted with the "File Download" dialog box, select "Save this program to disk" and save it in a place you are sure to remember, like your Desktop.
  3. After the file has finished downloading, launch the Installer from your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. After the installation is complete, you will need to perform a HotSync to install the software on your Palm.
  5. For further instructions on how to use the software, double-click the User Guide that was installed on your desktop.

What is the current version of SplashMoney and what has changed?
SplashMoney 4.09 is the current version. For an overview of changes, see the release notes.

How do I update my software?
Simply download and run the latest SplashMoney Installer found on the download page. It will update your existing software on your desktop and handheld. Your data will remain intact and you won't have to re-enter your registration code.

If you are updating to SplashMoney 4, please be aware that it is a $10 upgrade, free to try for 30 days. Pay careful attention to the backup instructions on the download page before upgrading.

How do I delete SplashMoney?
To delete the SplashMoney Conduit from your desktop:

Windows:

  1. Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
  2. Select SplashMoney and click Change/Remove.

Mac:

  1. Delete the SplashMoney folder from your Applications folder
  2. Delete the SplashMoney Conduit from the folder Hard Disk/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits

To delete SplashMoney from your handheld:

  1. Tap the Home icon on your handheld to go to the Application launcher.
  2. Tap the Menu icon that appears below the Home icon to the left of the Graffiti area to display the App Menu.
  3. Select Delete from the App Menu.
  4. Select SplashMoney and tap Delete.

How do I revert to SplashMoney 3.03 if I do not wish to upgrade at this time?
If you want to go back from version 4.x to version 3.03, and you want to hold onto your data, you need to get your data into QIF files and uninstall.

You can export each account as a QIF file from the SplashMoney Desktop (File > Export  > QIF).

Now uninstall SplashMoney 4 from the desktop:

  1. Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
  2. Select SplashMoney and click Change/Remove.

Now delete SplashMoney from the handheld:

  1. Tap the Home icon on your handheld to go to the Application launcher.
  2. Tap the Menu icon that appears below the Home icon to the left of the Graffiti area to display the App Menu.
  3. Select Delete from the App Menu.
  4. Select SplashID and tap Delete.

Now, you can reinstall SplashMoney 3.03, which you can download here:

After reinstalling, set the SplashMoney conduit to import QIF files from the desktop.

Then move the QIF files that were backed up earlier in this process to here:

C:\My Documents\SplashMoney\To Palm

Then HotSync.

How much memory does SplashMoney require on my handheld?
SplashMoney requires 648kb for the application and 50-100k for the data.

How do I install the localized version (French, German, Italian, or Spanish)?
You must uninstall any previous versions on your desktop in order to install the new localized version because the new installer will automatically detect that you've already installed the English version and assume that you want to install the English version again.

In the Control Panel on your desktop computer, choose Add/Remove programs, select the application you are updating and choose Remove.

You only need to remove the Desktop application (not the handheld). After removal is complete, run the new installer and it will allow you to select a language.

If you need to download the installer, download it here.

I just purchased SplashMoney and need a registration code. Where do I find it?
When you purchase the software online, an order confirmation email is immediately sent to you containing your registration code (sent to the email you entered during your purchase). The registration code will begin with the letters SMXU or SWXU. Enter it exactly as it appears, and the trial software will be converted into a registered version.

I installed SplashMoney on a new handheld and it's asking me for my registration code. Where can I find it?
If you installed SplashMoney on a new handheld, you can find your existing registration code on the old handheld as follows: Launch SplashMoney on the old handheld, then select About SplashMoney from the Options Menu. Your registration code will be displayed in the dialog.

If the above doesn't work, contact us and we'll respond with your registration code.

SplashMoney won't accept my registration code. Why not?
Make sure you are entering the correct registration code, and not your order number. The registration code should begin with the letters SMXU or SWXU. If you purchased before February 1, 2005, and you have installed version 4.0 or later, then you need to either purchase the upgrade or revert to SplashMoney 3.03.

You may want to try entering the code without the dashes. Also, make sure there are no spaces before, after, or within the code. Also, make sure you are not confusing your registration code with your password. The registration code only needs to be entered once. The password is a word you define and must be entered each time you launch SplashMoney.

How much do upgrades cost?

Are upgrades free and how do I know if I qualify?
The upgrade to SplashMoney 4 costs $10. If you are a current owner of a previous version of SplashMoney, you can use the SplashMoney Upgrade Form.

Product Upgrades
Updates within a version (e.g., 3.0 to 3.1) are free to all registered users. Major upgrades (e.g., 3.x to 4.x) are available at a substantial discount to registered users. If you purchase within 30-days of a major upgrade you will receive the upgrade for free.

SplashWallet Suite Upgrades
The SplashWallet Suite is a bundle of SplashID, SplashMoney, SplashPhoto, and SplashShopper sold together at a discount. If you purchased an earlier version of SplashMoney as part of the SplashWallet Suite, you may each application individually. Click here to use the SplashMoney Upgrade Form.

Can I use SplashMoney on multiple handheld and/or desktops?
You may use SplashMoney on multiple computers/handhelds. The registration code is not tied to a specific device. The license is per user, so you may install it on all of the computers/handhelds that you use.

Does SplashMoney support external memory?
SplashMoney must be stored on internal memory in order for the HotSync Conduit to run and synchronize with the desktop.

How do I access the SplashMoney Conduit?
The SplashMoney Conduit settings are accessed through the HotSync manager.

Windows:

  1. Click the HotSync Manager icon in the Windows system tray and select Custom to open the Custom dialog.
  2. Double click the SplashMoney entry in the Conduit list. This will open the SplashMoney Conduit and allow you to adjust its settings. For more information, see the SplashMoney Conduit in the User Guide.

Mac:

  1. Open the Palm Desktop and choose Conduit Settings from the HotSync menu.
  2. Double click the SplashMoney entry in the Conduit list. This will open the SplashMoney Conduit and allow you to adjust its settings. For more information, see the SplashMoney Conduit in the User Guide.

Note: If the SplashMoney Conduit is not showing up in the list, it may be because the HotSync Manager needs to be exited and restarted. The easiest way to do this is to restart your computer.

Can I synchronize with Quicken and Microsoft Money?
SplashMoney will export and import transactions to/from Quicken and Microsoft Money as follows:

Quicken 99 through 2004 for Windows

Quicken 98 or earlier for Windows, or Quicken for Macintosh

Microsoft Money

Can I synchronize with QuickBooks?
No. QuickBooks does not support QIF format.

Transactions aren't auto-uploading to Quicken. Why not?
This feature is only available in Quicken 99 through 2004 for Windows. It is not supported in earlier versions of Quicken or any version of Quicken for Macintosh. If you are using Quicken 99 through 2004 for Windows and still having problems, read on...

First, you must exit Quicken before performing a HotSync. If Quicken is running when you HotSync the transactions will not be uploaded.

Second, when uploading transactions direct to Quicken, only new transactions are uploaded. The first time this option is turned on, it may appear to not work because no new transactions have been created since the last HotSync. To test if it's working properly, simply enter a sample transaction in SplashMoney, perform a HotSync and then launch Quicken. The newly created sample transaction should appear in Quicken. If so, from that point forward all new transactions will be uploaded to Quicken.

When transferring transactions from SplashMoney into Quicken or MS Money the date and/or number formats are messed up. Why?
Transactions are imported/exported to/from SplashMoney using the mm/dd/yyyy date format and 1,000.00 number format. The import/export formats are completely independent from the date and number format settings you are using on your handheld. These formats are accepted by most versions of Quicken and Microsoft Money. If you are using an international or older version of Quicken or Microsoft Money, however, these formats may not be understood. In this case, you can change the formats by clicking the Format button in the SplashMoney Conduit dialog and making the following changes:

  • Date: Select the appropriate date format for your version of Quicken or Microsoft Money. If you are using an older version of Quicken or Microsoft Money, you may need to select a 2-digit year format, since the older versions may not understand the 4-digit year format.
  • Numbers: Select the appropriate number format for your version of Quicken or Microsoft Money (1,000.00 or 1.000,00).

For more information, see Date and Number Formats in the User Guide.

Where is my SplashMoney data backed up?
Each time you HotSync, your SplashMoney data is written to the Palm Backup folder, C:\Palm\<username>\Backup\ (Mac: /Home/Documents/Palm/Users/<user>/Backup) Each account is stored in a separate database file (PDB) with the letters SpMn- preceding the account name. For example, if you have an account called Checking, it will be stored as "SpMn-Checking.PDB" in the Backup folder.

Note: Users of SplashMoney 2.65 and earlier, the filename will not be preceded by "SpMn-". Instead it will be appended with "SpMn". So the filename for your Checking account would be "Checking-SpMn.PDB".

In addition, there are a number of other support files in the Backup folder:

  • SMCategoryList-SpMn.PDB
  • SMClassList-SpMn.PDB
  • SMImportList-SpMn.PDB
  • SMPayeeList-SpMn.PDB

How do I restore my SplashMoney data if it has been deleted from my handheld?
SplashMoney data can be backed up and restored in the following ways:

  • Each time you HotSync, your SplashMoney data is written to the Palm Backup folder (see above). In the event of a hard reset, these PDBs will be automatically re-installed on your Palm by performing a HotSync.
  • If your data is ok in the SplashMoney Desktop, then you can just set the SplashMoney conduit to desktop overwrites handheld for one sync to transfer the data to the handheld.
  • You may manually install the SplashMoney PDBs (see above) by launching the Palm Install Tool, and dragging all of the PDB files into the Install Tool Window. Then perform a HotSync.
  • You can use the SplashMoney Conduit to export your data in QIF format. Each time you HotSync, your SplashMoney data is written to the SplashMoney/From Palm folder. Each account is stored in a separate QIF file. For example, if you have an account called Checking, it will be stored as Checking.QIF in the SplashMoney/From Palm folder. In the event of a hard reset, you can Import these QIFs into SplashMoney using the Import function of the SplashMoney Conduit. For more information, see Importing data to SplashMoney from an online bank

I just bought a new handheld. How do I copy my SplashMoney data from the old handheld to the new handheld?
You can install the backup file from the old handheld to the new handheld. Each time you perform a HotSync, your SplashMoney database files (PDBs) on the handheld are copied to the Palm Backup folder on your desktop: C:\Palm\<username>\Backup\ (Mac: /Home/Documents/Palm/Users/<user>/Backup). Each account is stored in a separate database file (PDB) with the letters SpMn- preceding the account name. For example, if you have an account called Checking, it will be stored as SpMn-Checking.PDB in the Backup folder. Locate each of these files in the Backup folder of the old handheld, double-click it to launch the Palm Install Tool, select the new username and click OK. Now perform a HotSync, and the SplashMoney backup files from the old handheld will be installed on the new handheld. Note: You will also want to install the following files to the new handheld: SMCategoryList-SpMn.PDB, SMClassList-SpMn.PDB, SMPayeeList-SpMn.PDB.

Why can't I sync with Quicken 2005?
Starting with version 2005, Quicken dropped support for import of QIF files for Checking, Savings, 401K, and other brokerage accounts. This basically shut out 3rd party developers like us. More Information from Quicken on the subject:

Quicken FAQ regarding dropping QIF support

Our solution to this problem was to develop the SplashMoney Desktop, and add OFX and Direct Connect support for downloading data from your online bank.

My bank is listed as being supported, but I am getting an error connecting. Why?
Please verify that your bank is on our list of supported banks. Depending on the error, it could be a couple of things:

  • Invalid username/userpass - If you are receiving an error that your user name and password are incorrect, it could be because you are using the same username and password that you use to login into your bank's website. But some banks require different login info for Web Connect (connecting to your bank's web-site) and Direct Connect (using a personal financial manager like SplashMoney or Quicken). You'll have to contact your bank's customer service to find out whether or not you need a different username and password for Direct Connect online banking. SplashMoney Direct Connect should be compatible with any bank that allows Quicken Direct Connect. Click here for a list of supported banks. Note: Some banks claim to be compatible with Quicken for Windows only, so you may want to tell them that is what you are using. Also, some banks will charge for this service.
  • Error 15000 - Some banks, such as US Bank, will reject SplashMoney the first time it tries to connect because you have never connected via SplashMoney before. In order to activate the service for SplashMoney, you will have to use the Change Online Password feature found in the Options menu. Select a new password and then you should be able to use SplashMoney to connect to your bank.
  • Error 4626 - This is a network timeout error. Try connecting again and it should work if you have steady internet access.
  • Error 2000 - Bank of America customers may receive this error message if they have not called Customer Service at their bank to activate online banking. Note: They may claim to be compatible with Quicken for Windows only, so you may want to tell them that is what you are using. Also, in some regions you may be charged a fee for this service.

My data is not synchronizing between the handheld and the desktop. Why?
There are six primary reasons why SplashMoney won't sync:

  1. Password's don't match -- The password set in SplashMoney on the handheld must exactly match the password set on SplashMoney Desktop. The password is case sensitive. If the passwords don't match, the data will not be synchronized. Click here for information on changing the password.
  2. Different versions -- The version of SplashMoney installed on the handheld does not match the version on the Desktop. You must run the installer to install the most recent version of SplashMoney and then perform a HotSync to install it on the handheld. You must then launch SplashMoney on both the handheld and the desktop to upgrade the databases to the current version, and perform a HotSync again to synchronize them. To update your existing software, simply download and run the latest installer.
  3. Wrong User name -- The handheld User name may not match the SplashMoney Desktop User. Check the User name of your handheld by going to the app launcher and tapping the HotSync icon. Your User name will appear on the top right. Then check the User name popup menu that appears on the top left of SplashMoney Desktop. Make sure the User name that appears there matches the User name on your handheld. If you have the wrong username selected in SplashMoney Desktop and have entered a lot of records on the desktop, you can select all the records in the wrong User, copy them to your clipboard, select the right User and paste the records.
  4. SplashMoney not on internal memory -- If SplashMoney is stored on external memory (e.g. SD or MMC card, or Memory Stick) the conduit won't run. The Conduit requires that SplashMoney be installed on internal memory. If this is the case, simply move SplashMoney to internal memory and try synchronizing again.
  5. SplashMoney Conduit not loaded -- Click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the lower right hand side of your windows desktop, and select Custom. A list of Conduits will appear. If SplashMoney is not showing up in the Conduit list you may need to re-install it by downloading and running the SplashMoney Installer. If you just installed the software and it's still not showing up, you may need to restart the HotSync Manager. When you install a Conduit (like SplashMoney) it requires HotSync Manager to be restarted in order for the Conduit to load and show up in the list. The SplashMoney Installer automatically restarts the HotSync Manager after a successful installation process, but sometimes it doesn't work. Therefore, you have to manually restart HotSync, by restarting your computer, in order for the SplashMoney Conduit to load. After the initial restart, the Conduit will always load.
  6. System Conduit set to Desktop overwrites Handheld -- The System Conduit (not to be confused with the SplashMoney Conduit) should be set to "Handheld overwrites Desktop". This is the factory default setting. If it is set improperly to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" it will not allow the SplashMoney Conduit to run. To check the System Conduit setting, click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the lower right hand side of your windows desktop, and select Custom. A list of Conduits will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the list and double-click the "System" Conduit. Select "Handheld overwrites Desktop", check the "Set as default" checkbox, click OK and Done.

Can you sync more than one user with the same desktop data?
No. This is a feature that we will consider offering in a future version.

I am getting error 14722 when I try to go online.
This is an SSL error, which is the result of our changing the location of the bank list server and the old server no longer being certified.

The solution is a simple update to SplashMoney 4.09:

/Downloads/SplashMoneyInstaller.exe

If you only want the handheld application, download it here:

/mobile/download/SplashMoney.prc
