SplashData’s SplashBlog Honored with Powered
as Best Multimedia Solution for Palm OS Handhelds
Group blogging capabilities of SplashBlog enables families, friends and colleagues
to post photos to a shared photo-blog
SEATTLE, June 2, 2005 — SplashData, Inc., the leading developer of personal productivity applications for mobile devices, announces that its SplashBlog photo-blogging solution for Palm Powered™ smartphones has been honored by PalmSource, Inc. with a Powered Up Award as the Best Multimedia Solution for Palm OS Handhelds. The Powered Up Awards recognize four of the most innovative Palm OS applications from among the 400,000 Palm OS developers and showcases industry-leading mobile Palm OS applications that utilize the advanced features of Palm Powered smartphones and mobile devices.
“Splashblog further extends the reach of Palm OS®,” said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource, Inc. “We believe the combination of advanced wireless capabilities and the ability to share, post and subscribe to blog entries truly make SplashBlog a must-have for users of Palm Powered smartphones.”
SplashBlog is a wireless photo-blogging solution designed to allow users of Palm Powered smartphones to quickly share photos with others. SplashBlog includes software for capturing, annotating and organizing photos on the mobile device as well as on the web with an account on SplashBlog.com where photos are hosted and shared with others. The new features in SplashBlog 1.5 include the ability for multiple users to post photos to a shared photo-blog, a new portal page on SplashBlog.com that displays recently posted photos as well as the most popular photo-blogs, and a streamlined approach to subscribing to other users' SplashBlogs - enabling users to automatically download and view all new photos posted to blogs to which they are subscribed.
To demonstrate the power of group photo-blogging, all attendees of the recently held PalmSource Mobile Summit & DevCon 2005 received a complimentary copy of SplashBlog to photo blog the Conference (www.splashblog.com/devcon2005). By the end of the conference, 472 pictures of the event had been posted on the blog, including photos of devices, people, places, presentations and entertainment.
“We’re thrilled to see SplashBlog honored as the best new multi-media solution for Palm OS handhelds,” said John Chaffee, president of SplashData, Inc. “SplashBlog offers a unique, efficient way for smartphone users to instantly share photos with friends and family. The innovative group photo sharing features introduced in the latest version extend that capability, expanding the ability for groups of users to post and retrieve photos with a group photo-blog. The tremendous success of the PalmSource DevCon photo-blog was an excellent example of the power and excitement of group photo-blogging, with dozens of contributors and over 400 images posted in three days.”
SplashBlog requires a mobile device running Palm OS® 4.0 or later with a wireless data connection. A built-in camera is recommended but not required. Mobile devices without a camera can publish images from a VFS memory card (e.g., from a digital camera). Two-way synchronization is also supported, enabling images added via the Web site to be downloaded to the handheld.
Pricing & Availability
SplashBlog for the Palm OS® platform is available now at www.splashblog.com for a limited time introductory offer of $19.95 (normally $29.95). The software purchase includes access to an online photo hosting account on splashblog.com. A 30-day full-functioning trial is also available for download.
