How does the trial version differ from the regular
version?
The trial version and regular version are identical. The software
will run for 30-days in trial mode without requiring a registration code.
Once the 30-day trial expires, you must purchase a registration code to
continue using the product. Once you purchase a registration code, you
do not need to re-install the software. Simply enter the registration
code to continue using the software and all of your data will remain intact.
How do I install SplashID?
You must download and run the SplashID Installer on your desktop,
as follows:
- Go to the download page, and click
the Download button for SplashID for your operating system (Mac or Windows).
- When prompted with the "File Download" dialog box, select
"Save this program to disk" and save it in a place you are
sure to remember, like your Desktop.
- After the file has finished downloading, launch the Installer from
your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions.
Mac Users: You will have to UnStuff the SplashID Installer before installing.
- After the installation is complete, you will need to perform a HotSync
to install the software on your Palm.
- For further instructions on how to use the software, double-click
the User Guide that was installed on your desktop.
What is the current version of SplashID and what
has changed?
SplashID 4.16 is the current version. For an overview of changes,
see the release notes.
How do I update my software?
Simply download and run the latest SplashID Installer found on the download
page. It will update your existing software on your desktop and handheld.
Your data will remain intact and you won't have to re-enter your registration
code.
If you are updating to SplashID 4, please be aware that it is a $10
upgrade, free to try for 30 days. Pay careful attention to the backup
instructions on the download page before upgrading.
How do I delete SplashID?
To delete SplashID and the SplashID Conduit from your desktop:
Windows:
- Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
- Select SplashID and click Change/Remove.
Mac:
- Delete the SplashID folder from your Applications folder
- Delete the SplashID Conduit from the folder Hard Disk/Library/Application
Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits
To delete SplashID from your handheld:
- Tap the Home icon on your handheld to go to the Application launcher.
- Tap the Menu icon that appears below the Home icon to the left of
the Graffiti area to display the App Menu.
- Select Delete from the App Menu.
- Select SplashID and tap Delete.
How do I revert to SplashID 3.32 if I do
not wish to upgrade at this time?
If you want to go back from SplashID 4.0 to version 3.32, you can export
your data from SplashID 4.x in CSV format (File > Export > CSV),
and then import the CSV file into SplashID 3.32. Or you can import
the vID file you exported before upgrading if you did as instructed
on the
SplashID Download page.
To uninstall SplashID 4.x:
- Click on the Start button, then Control Panel, then choose Add/Remove
Programs.
- Select SplashID from the list of applications, and then click Remove.
- Delete the SplashID database file located here:
• Windows XP - My
Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
• Windows Vista
- <user>\
Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
Now delete SplashID from the handheld:
- Tap the Home icon on your handheld to go to the Application launcher.
- Tap the Menu icon that appears below the Home icon to the left of
the Graffiti area to display the App Menu.
- Select Delete from the App Menu.
- Select SplashID and tap Delete.
If you want to install SplashID 3.32, you can download it here:
If you own a license for an even older version of SplashID, and did
not upgrade to version 3, you can reinstall SplashID 2.59, which you
can download here:
Now import the CSV file (or the version 3.x vID file) you exported
using File > Import.
Your records should now appear, with one catch. Version 4.0 introduced
4 additional fields, and previous versions cannot handle that correctly.
Your records will import properly, but there will be additional records
created for the extra fields if you have edited your data in SplashID
4 at all. Simply delete these mostly blank records and you will be back
in good shape.
How much memory does SplashID require on my handheld?
SplashID requires 500k of free memory for the application and
about 40k for the data.
How do I install the localized version
(French, German, Italian, or Spanish)?
You must uninstall any previous versions on your desktop in order to install
the new localized version because the new installer will automatically
detect that you've already installed the English version and assume that
you want to install the English version again.
In the Control Panel on your desktop computer, choose Add/Remove programs,
select the application you are updating and choose Remove.
You only need to remove the Desktop application (not the handheld).
After removal is complete, run the new installer and it will allow you
to select a language.
If you need to download the installer, download
it here.
Note: At this time SplashID 4 is not localized. Only version 3.32 is
localized.
I just purchased SplashID and need a registration code.
Where do I find it?
When you purchase the software online, an order confirmation email
is immediately sent to you (the email you gave in the purchase form) containing
your registration code. The registration code will begin with the letters
SDXU or SWXU. Enter it exactly as it appears, and the trial software will
be converted into a registered version.
I installed SplashID on a new handheld/desktop and
it's asking me for my registration code. Where can I find it?
If you installed SplashID on a new handheld or desktop, you can find
your existing registration code on the old device as follows:
Desktop
Launch SplashID Desktop, then select About SplashID Desktop from
the Help Menu. Your registration code will be displayed in the dialog.
It will start with "SDXU"
Handheld
Launch SplashID on the handheld, then select About SplashID from
the Options Menu. Your registration code will be displayed in the dialog.
It will start with "SDXU"
If the above doesn't work, contact
us and we'll respond with your registration code.
SplashID won't accept my registration code.
Why not?
Make sure you are entering the correct registration code, and not your
order number. The registration code should begin with the letters SDXU
or SWXU. You may want to try entering the code without the dashes. Also,
make sure there are no spaces before, after, or within the code. Also,
make sure you are not confusing your registration code with your password.
The registration code only needs to be entered once. The password is a
word you define and must be entered each time you launch SplashID.
How much do upgrades cost?
The upgrade to SplashID 4 costs $9.95. If you are a current owner
of a previous version of SplashID, you can use the SplashID
Upgrade Form.
Product Upgrades
Updates within a version (e.g., 2.0 to 2.1) are free to all
registered users. Major upgrades (e.g., 3.x to 4.x) are available at
a substantial discount to registered users. If you purchase within 30-days
of a major upgrade you can receive the upgrade for free if you contact
us.
SplashWallet Suite Upgrades
The SplashWallet Suite is a bundle of SplashID, SplashMoney,
SplashPhoto, and SplashShopper sold together at a discount. If you purchased
an earlier version of SplashID as part of the SplashWallet Suite, you
may upgrade the full SplashWallet Suite for $9.95. Click here to use
the SplashWallet
Upgrade Form.
Can I use SplashID on multiple handhelds and/or desktops?
You may use SplashID on multiple computers/handhelds. The registration
code is not tied to a specific device. The license is per user, so you
may install it on all of the computers/handhelds that you use.
Does SplashID support external memory?
SplashID must be stored on internal memory in order for the HotSync
Conduit to run and synchronize with the desktop.
Data between my Handheld and
Desktop won't sync. Why?
Please check the HotSync log by clicking the HotSync icon in
your system tray on your desktop and selecting View Log to see if SplashID
is reporting an error. There are six primary reasons why SplashID won't
sync:
-
Password's don't match -- The password set in SplashID
on the handheld must exactly match the password set on SplashID Desktop.
The password is case sensitive. If the passwords don't match, the
data will not be synchronized. Click
here for information on changing the password.
-
Wrong User name -- The handheld User name may not
match the SplashID Desktop User. Check the User name of your handheld
by going to the app launcher and tapping the HotSync icon. Your User
name will appear on the top right. Then check the User name popup
menu that appears on the top left of SplashID Desktop. Make sure the
User name that appears there matches the User name on your handheld.
-
SplashID not on internal memory -- If SplashID is
stored on external memory (e.g., SD/MMC card on the m505) the conduit
won't run. The Conduit requires that SplashID be installed on internal
memory. If this is the case, simply move SplashID to internal memory
and try HotSyncing again.
-
Different versions -- The version of SplashID installed
on the handheld does not match the version on the Desktop. You must
run the installer to install the most recent version of SplashID and
then perform a HotSync to install it on the handheld. You must then
launch SplashID on both the handheld and the desktop to upgrade the
databases to the current version, and perform a HotSync again to synchronize
them. To update your existing software, simply download and run the
latest installer found on the download
page.
-
SplashID Conduit not loaded -- Click the HotSync
icon in the system tray on the lower right hand side of your windows
desktop, and select Custom (on Palm Desktop 6.x, select Settings, then Applications).
A list of Conduits will appear. If SplashID is not showing up in
the Conduit list you may need to re-install it by downloading and
running the SplashID Installer. If you just installed the software
and it's still not showing up, you may need to restart the HotSync
Manager. When you install a Conduit (like SplashID) it requires HotSync
Manager to be restarted in order for the Conduit to load and show
up in the list. The SplashID Installer automatically restarts the
HotSync Manager after a successful installation process, but sometimes
it doesn't work. Therefore, you have to manually restart HotSync,
by restarting your computer, in order for the SplashID Conduit to
load. After the initial restart, the Conduit will always load.
Mac Users: Open the Palm Desktop and choose Conduits from the
HotSync menu. A list of Conduits will appear. If SplashID is not showing
up in the Conduit list you may need to re-install it by downloading
and running the SplashID Installer.
Therefore, you have to manually restart HotSync,
by logging out of OS X (or restarting in OS 9), in order for the SplashID
Conduit to load. After the initial restart, the Conduit will always
load.
-
System Conduit set to Desktop overwrites Handheld
-- The System Conduit (aka Backup conduit) should be set to "Handheld
overwrites Desktop".
This is the factory default setting. If it is set improperly to "Desktop
overwrites Handheld" it will not allow the SplashID Conduit
to run. To check the System Conduit setting, click the HotSync
icon in the system tray on the lower right hand side of your windows
desktop, and select Custom (on Palm Desktop 6.x, select Settings, then Applications).
A list of Conduits will appear. Scroll
to the bottom of the list and double-click the "System" Conduit.
Select
"Handheld overwrites Desktop", check the "Set as default"
checkbox, click OK and Done. Note: Do NOT confuse the System Conduit
with the SplashID Conduit. The SplashID Conduit should be set to "Synchronize".
Mac Users: System Backup set to Macintosh overwrites Handheld
-- The Backup Conduit (not to be confused with the SplashID Conduit)
should be set to "Backup". This is the factory default setting.
If it is set improperly to "Restore from Backup" it will
not allow the SplashID Conduit to run. To check the Backup Conduit
setting, click HotSync > Conduit Settings in Palm Desktop. Double-click
the "Backup" Conduit. Select "Backup", check the
"Set as default" checkbox, click OK and Done.
SplashID won't Sync. The HotSync Error Log say's
that my passwords don't match. How do I get them to match?
Make sure the password you have set for SplashID on the handheld
is exactly the same as the password you have set for SplashID on the desktop.
The password is case sensitive.
If you're sure the password is the same on both platforms, and are still
getting this error, you can try one of the following:
- Remove the password from both platforms and perform a HotSync. Then
add the password back to both platforms and HotSync again.
and/or
- If all the records exist on one device (handheld or desktop), change
the SplashID Conduit settings to "Handheld overwrites desktop"
or "Desktop overwrites handheld" and perform a HotSync. This
will copy all of the records from one device to the other, including
the password. WARNING: This will erase all the data on the device being
overwritten.
How do I set the password in SplashID?
You must manually set the same password on each platform:
- Handheld: launch SplashID, press the menu button (or tap the
menu bar) and select Set Password and enter a password.
- Desktop: launch SplashID Desktop, click the File Menu, choose
Set Password, and enter your password.
How do I open the SplashID Conduit?
Windows:
- Click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the lower right hand
side of your windows desktop, and select Custom (on Vista, select Settings,
then Applications).
- Double click the SplashID entry in the Conduit list. This will open
the SplashID Conduit and allow you to adjust its settings. For more
information, see the SplashID
Conduit in the User Guide.
Mac:
- Open the Palm Desktop and choose Conduit Settings from the HotSync
menu (or just open Missing Sync if you use that).
- Double click the SplashID entry in the Conduit list. This will open
the SplashID Conduit and allow you to adjust its settings. For more
information, see the SplashID
Conduit in the User Guide.
Note: If the SplashID Conduit is not showing up in the list, it may be
because the HotSync Manager needs to be exited and restarted. The easiest
way to do this is to restart your computer or log out and back in.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
There are 3 possible scenarios with this:
1. You can access your data on the SplashID Desktop,
but not on the handheld. If this is the case set your SplashID conduit
to desktop overwrites handheld for one sync.
To do this:
- Click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the lower right hand
side of your windows desktop, and select Custom (on Vista, select Settings,
then Applications).
- A list of conduits will appear.
- Double-click the SplashID conduit and choose desktop overwrites handheld,
then click OK.
- Perform a hotsync. This will move all the data (and password) from
the desktop to the handheld.
2. You can access the data on the handheld but
not in the SplashID desktop. In that case, change the SplashID conduit
to handheld overwrites desktop for one sync.
To do this:
- Click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the lower right hand
side of your windows desktop, and select Custom (on Vista, select Settings,
then Applications).
- A list of conduits will appear.
- Double-click the SplashID conduit and choose handheld overwrites desktop,
then click OK.
- Perform a hotsync. This will move all the data (and password) from
the handheld to the desktop.
3. But if you've forgotten your password for both
the desktop and the handheld, there's no way to recover it. To start fresh,
do the following:
- Delete the SplashIDDatabase.sdb file found on your desktop in:
• XP: My Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
• Vista: <user>\Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
- Launch SplashID Desktop. It will open with a blank window.
- Open the SplashID Conduit and change the settings to "Desktop
overwrites handheld"
- Perform a HotSync. This will wipe out your data on the handheld.
- You're now ready to start entering new records.
How secure is my data in SplashID?
Once you set a password in SplashID, the data is encrypted using
256-bit blowfish encryption on both the handheld and the desktop. The
password is also encrypted within the data file. And the data is synchronized
between the desktop and handheld in an encrypted state. If someone were
to get a hold of your data file, they would be unable to decrypt it without
knowing the password.
Can I sync SplashID with multiple computers
(e.g. at work and at home)?
You may synchronize your handheld with multiple desktops (e.g.,
one at work and one at home). You just need to install the desktop software
on both desktops, and ensure that they are both running the same version.
You may install the software by downloading and running the latest installer
found on the download page. You may
synchronize SplashID with multiple desktops and it will keep all of them
in sync. The default SplashID Conduit settings to "Synchronize the
files" will work fine on each desktop.
I just bought a new handheld. How do
I copy my SplashID data from the old handheld to the new handheld?
There are several ways you can transfer the SplashID data from your
old handheld to your new one. Choose one of the following methods that
works best for you. Before performing any of the following steps, it is
recommended that you download and install
the latest version of SplashID.
Beaming
If you have the same version installed on both handhelds (you can
install the latest version of SplashID
now), you can beam the data from the old handheld to the new one. Launch
SplashID on the old handheld, view All categories, then select Beam
Category from the Options Menu. All the records will be beamed to the
new handheld.
Install the Backup PDB
If you have SplashID version 2.08 or later installed on the old
handheld (you can install the latest
version of SplashID now), you can install the backup file from the old
handheld to the new handheld. Locate the SplashIDDB2-SpId.PDB in the
Backup folder for the old handheld, double-click it to launch the Palm
Install Tool, select the new username and click OK. Now perform a HotSync,
and the SplashID backup file from the old handheld will be installed
on the new handheld.
Copy/Paste on the Desktop
In SplashID Desktop, you can copy all the records from the old
username to the new username. Launch SplashID Desktop and select the
old username from the User menu. Type Control-A (Mac: Command-A) to
select All records, then type Control-C (Mac: Command-C) to Copy all
the records to the clipboard. Then select the new username from the
User menu and type Control-V (Mac: Command-V) to
Paste the records into the new User. Now perform a HotSync and all the
records will be copied to the new handheld.
Install the old Desktop (.SDB) file
If you have upgraded from a Palm or Handspring to a Clie and SplashID
Desktop is not showing the old username in the User menu, you can do
the following. Exit out of SplashID Desktop. Do a search for the SplashID
Desktop database file called SplashIDdatabase.sdb. You should find two
copies: the old copy in C:\Palm\<user>\SplashID\ and the new one
at C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\<user>\SplashID\. Replace the
file in the new folder with the one from the old folder. Then launch
SplashID Desktop and your old data should re-appear. Now perform a HotSync
and it will be copied to the handheld.
Version 3.x or later:
c:\Users\<user>\Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
Mac Users: The
path to copy your restored database to is
<user>/Documents/Palm/Users/<user>/SplashIDdatabase.sdb
I just bought a new desktop computer (or
reformatted my hard drive and installed a new OS). How do I copy my SplashID
data from the handheld to the new desktop?
After installing Palm Desktop on the new desktop computer, you must
download and install the same version
of SplashID you were using previously:
Then when you perform a HotSync,
any data in SplashID on the handheld will be copied to SplashID Desktop.
How do I backup my data?
SplashID data is stored on both the handheld and
the desktop, and each acts as a backup of the other. So, in effect, if
you lose the data on one of these devices through a catastrophic event
(e.g., hard drive failure), the data will be restored to that device from
the other device during your next HotSync. However, you may wish to backup
your files as an additional precaution:
Handheld
Each time you perform a HotSync, your SplashID database file (PDB)
on the handheld is copied to the Palm Backup folder on your desktop,
C:\Program Files\Palm\<username>\Backup\.
The filename is SplashIDDB2-SpId.PDB. You may wish to back up this file
as an added precaution in case of hardware failure.
In the event of a hard reset, this PDB will be
automatically restored on your handheld during the next HotSync. You may
also manually install the SplashIDDB2-SpId.PDB by double-clicking it to
launch the Palm Install Tool, and then performing a HotSync.
Desktop
The SplashID Desktop database files are automatically saved to the SplashID
directory on your hard drive each time you exit the application. The file
is called SplashIDDatabase.sdb. You may back up this file as an added
precaution in case of a hard drive failure. To restore this backed up
file simply copy it back into the SplashID directory. Then the next time
you launch SplashID it will open the file. The file is stored in one of
the locations below depending on what operating system you are running.
SplashID Desktop for Windows
- XP:
My Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID Database.sdb
- Vista: <user>\Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
- Versions 1.x & 2.x: C:\Palm\<username>\SplashID\SplashIDDatabase.sdb
SplashID Desktop for Mac OS X with Palm Desktop 4.0
SplashID Desktop for Mac OS 9 with Palm Desktop 4.0
SplashID Desktop for Mac OS 8.6 or OS 9 with Palm Desktop
2.6
SplashID vID file Export
In version 2.1 or later, you can export a vID file which is a portable
version of your SplashID database. To do so, go to File : Export : SplashID
vID file and save it wherever you like. The records exported will be whatever
is displayed on the screen, either All Categories or a specific category
that is being displayed. On a second computer or after a loss of data,
you can import by going to File : Import : SplashID vID file and browsing
to the file you previously exported.
When I try to install under Windows Vista, I get
a message that HotSync is not installed.
Our software works with Vista, but you must have
the latest version of the Palm Desktop installed.
First you should move
your Palm user folder to the desktop to back it up:
- C:\Program Files\PalmOne\
Then uninstall the Palm Desktop, in Control Panel > Programs & Features.
Then install: Palm Desktop 6.2
Then install our apps: Download Page
I was running SplashID in (French, German, Italian
or Spanish) and I upgraded to version 4.x. Now SplashID desktop will
not start.
This is related to the language files on your previous version,
as SplashID 4 does not have German translation yet. Please uninstall
and reinstall.
- Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
- Select SplashID and click
Change/Remove.
Your data will remain intact.
Then reinstall - SplashID 4.x for Windows Download
Is SplashID for Mac OS compatible with Mac
OS 10.5 Leopard?
Yes, now that SplashID 4 is released as a Universal binary,
it is fully Leopard compatible.
After upgrading, I have garbage data (random
characters) on the SplashID desktop, but the data is OK
on the handheld. How do I safely fix this?
Please do the following - since your data is OK on the PDA, you can
restore from there.
Do NOT HotSync - if you HotSync, you
will transfer the bad data from SplashID Desktop to the
PDA, and then it will be more difficult to recover.
You
need to delete the Desktop database file, then change the
SplashID conduit to "Handheld overwrites Desktop".
To do
this:
- Exit from SplashID Desktop.
- Delete the SplashID Desktop database:
- XP: My Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
- Vista: <user>\Documents\SplashData\SplashID\<username>\SplashID
Database.sdb
- Then run SplashID Desktop and you should find it empty.
Exit from SplashID Desktop.
- Then change the SplashID conduit to "Handheld overwrites
Desktop" for
one sync:
- Click the HotSync icon in the system tray on the
lower right hand side of your windows desktop, and
select Custom (on Palm Desktop 6.x, select Settings, then Applications).
- Double-click the SplashID conduit and choose "Handheld overwrites Desktop",
then click OK, click Done.
- Perform a HotSync. This will copy all the good
SplashID data (and password) from the handheld to
the Desktop.
- Then start SplashID Desktop and
your data should appear OK now, with no garbage/random
data.
My data does not appear in the SplashID
desktop for Mac after upgrading to version 4
SplashID 4 will not pick up your data in the desktop version,
but it will update it on the handheld. So after you complete
the installation, HotSync to install on the handheld. Then
run SplashID 4 on the handheld and the database will be upgraded.
Then set the SplashID conduit to handheld overwrites desktop
for one sync.
To do this:
- Launch Palm Desktop and choose Conduit Settings from
the Hotsync Menu.
- A list of conduits will appear.
- Double-click the SplashID conduit and choose Handheld
overwrites Macintosh, then click OK.
- Perform a hotsync. This will move all the data (and
password) from the handheld to the Macintosh.
Whenever I click on a record in the list
in SplashID Desktop, I hear an annoying beep.
It turns out that this is a bug in Vista, and not in SplashID. Please see this
Microsoft Knowledge Base article on the issue and ways to resolve it.
Alternatively, click the Volume icon in the System Tray and select
Mixer. Then click the Mute button for SplashID.
Error message: "You
need to run SplashID version 2.59 to upgrade your old
data; then
you can run version 3.32."
Do not install version 2.59, it will cause you to lose your
SplashID data. The error message appears when you install
version 3.x
over 4.x, which you generally should not do. Version 3.x
is trying to
find its data, but cannot open SplashID 4.x version's data,
thus it
shows this error message.
To get your SplashID data back:
- Reinstall
SplashID 4.x
- HotSync after reinstalling and then run
SplashID on the PDA, and see
if it works fine this time and shows your data.
- If it does show your data, and SplashID Desktop
on the PC does not,
change the SplashID conduit to "Handheld overwrites Desktop" for
one
sync, and HotSync again. This copies all SplashID data
from the PDA
to the PC.
- Run SplashID Desktop 4.x and see if it
shows your
data from the PDA.
Note: If you don't have a SplashID 4.x registration code,
you will
need to upgrade for $10.
I had version 4.xx installed, then I installed 3.32 (or 2.59). I am
trying to import data from a vID file. SplashID Desktop says that my
vID file password is wrong, but I know it is the correct one. What
do I do?
If you are running SplashID Desktop 2.x or 3.x, it is
possible that you get an invalid password error when trying
to import
a vID file, although the password is correct, if the vID
file was
created in SplashID Desktop 4.16.
To fix this, install SplashID Desktop 4.16 and try again,
and it
should take your password
and import the data correctly.
